Statement :

This piece was inspired by an installation done by Damien Hirst Entitled "One Thousand Years". The conceptualization of this work came from the unrelated situation of a restless night. Not being able to sleep, experimentally ,cucumber slices were cut and placed on my eyes which proved to be successful.

A few weeks later the very same cucumber slices were found and they had changed greatly in shape, size ,color and texture.

In the making process photography could have made it easier to capture, but visually these changes had to be seen with natural eyes   at specific points in time whilst simultaneously  viewing the entire process.

The experimental work of Capturing Decay was done to Replicate what had happened to the cucumber slice from the restless night. Multiple samples were used in this experimental piece such as beets, tomato,Eggplant, apple, potato, cucumber, carrots and more , but they were all done to capture the natural changes of these objects over time. The focus being to capture the change in form, color and size.

Capturing Decay was exhibited for 3 days and almost all slides were disposed of, for health and storage reasons.

However the  tomato captured decay process and slides were saved and transformed  into the capsule seen below. In this form  the process of decay along with its visual changes can still be seen within the glass space.
